Field-trip
You should not leave Mainz without seeing some of the fascinating local geology. On Friday, there will be a field trip to the Mainz Basin (Cenozoic) and Saar-Nahe Basin (Permian), where we will see extensive fossiliferous deposits (containing amphibians, mollusks etc.), interesting sedimentological features and regionally important tectonic structures. You can still sign up for the fieldtrip at the registration desk.
Participants please meet in front of the conference center at 08:00 on Friday. We will return at approximately 19:30. Proper walking boots are strongly recommended. A geological hammer and hand lens would also be very useful.
For those with a few extra days in Mainz, visits to the world famous fossil Lagerstätten (Hunsrück Shale, Messel) can be arranged.
